A DIFFERENT LIGHT
A Different Light is a choreographic work by Alyssa Myers that comments on social organization as an ever evolving structure. The work was made in a social-distanced, outside setting including a parking lot with the audience in a half circle. Viewers came to watch in their vehicles while 4 dancers weaved through the space in unifying and cyclical patterns.
In the United States, cultural tensions and awareness have risen exponentially during the past year while a polarizing toxicity blinds individuals of their importance. So came the questions… How do we find connection in unfamiliar places? Where does the capacity to love and understand blossom? How was this death carving a way for new life? Craving the past was not leading to any sort of resolution. Confidence in evolving my mindset, leaning into change, and looking at restraint as an avenue for unprecedented possibility became the research in this work.
